The pyramids were made of thousands upon thousands of tons of rocks, namely limestone, granite, and mortar, some of which were transported from Aswan which is 800Km away from Giza.

It is believed that they would transport their equipment and materials by the use of sleds to glide through the sand, with the help of extra workers pouring water in front of the sleds to wet the sand and reduce the friction.

They used ramps to drag the giant stone blocks up into their position as they were building the pyramids, with either water or wet clay acting as a lubricant to lessen friction.

The outer layer of the Pyramid was made of fine white limestone which gave it a completely smooth finish.

The Pyramids are estimated to be around 4600 years old, and a cool fact about them is that scientists believe they used to actually be colored, as traces of colors and pigments have been found on them.

Today the Pyramids are still standing strong, with no signs of them going away. The outer layer is no longer smooth due to corrosion and time, with a color that is “sandy”, however they have still impressively kept their shape despite it all.

They still serve a great purpose to Egypt, economically speaking at least, by being one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world, as people come from all over the globe to feast their eyes upon one of the ancient wonders of the world.
