The Pyramids of Giza

The Ancient Egyptian Pyramids are one of the most recognizable and iconic wonders of the ancient world, a loud and clear example of how truly advanced the human mind was even thousands of years ago.

These imposing structures of exemplary craftsmanship has left people all around the world puzzled as to how the Ancient Egyptians managed to erect such things with the limited tools they had back in the day.

Even though The Pyramids have been extensively studied for many many years, there are still a plethora of mysteries surrounding them, as some things about them are too intriguing to be brushed off.

Like how they are aligned with the stars, where each peak is situated just below the three stars that make up Orion’s belt.

Such details have even lead people to believe the Egyptians received aid from extraterrestrial beings, as The Pyramids were just too well crafted and intricate in detail for the ancient man to build naturally.

In this blog post we will go over some general information about the Pyramids, covering why, how, and when they were built, along with some fun facts!

Why they were built :

The Ancient Egyptians’ belief in the importance of life, death, and re-incarnation is believed to be the reason these structures were erected in the first place.

These monuments were built to house the the tombs of the mummified pharaohs. Death was thought to be a beginning to a new life, where each person had a second self called a “Ka” living within them, and only when the physical body would perish, would their “Ka” enjoy eternal life.

The Pharaohs believed that after death, they would rise again as gods, that coupled with the obvious fact that it is a royal burial place, gives us an explanation as to why the structures are so grandiose in scale.

Each pyramid at Giza was built for three generations of Egyptian kings. The biggest and most famous one is Khufu’s, the one smaller than it is his son’s Khafra’s, and the smallest out of the bunch is Khufu’s grandson’s Menkaure, and each pyramid housed the respective remains of each king.

The kings would be buried with gold, jewelry, and other valuable trinkets and artifacts, and unfortunately just 500 years after the Pyramids were completed and sealed, grave robbers have taken immense interest in the treasures found inside the sacred place of resting.

How they were built :

The pyramids were made of thousands upon thousands of tons of rocks, namely limestone, granite, and mortar, some of which were transported from Aswan which is 800Km away from Giza.

It is believed that they would transport their equipment and materials by the use of sleds to glide through the sand, with the help of extra workers pouring water in front of the sleds to wet the sand and reduce the friction.

They used ramps to drag the giant stone blocks up into their position as they were building the pyramids, with either water or wet clay acting as a lubricant to lessen friction.

The outer layer of the Pyramid was made of fine white limestone which gave it a completely smooth finish.

The Pyramids are estimated to be around 4600 years old, and a cool fact about them is that scientists believe they used to actually be colored, as traces of colors and pigments have been found on them.

Them now :

Today the Pyramids are still standing strong, with no signs of them going away. The outer layer is no longer smooth due to corrosion and time, with a color that is “sandy”, however they have still impressively kept their shape despite it all.

They still serve a great purpose to Egypt, economically speaking at least, by being one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world, as people come from all over the globe to feast their eyes upon one of the ancient wonders of the world.

There are a lot of mysteries surrounding them to this day too, so scientists are still closely studying the Pyramids and trying to uncover the secrets that lie behind their ancient veil.

Seeing these structures that withstood the ultimate test of time for yourself and actually touching the massive stones that were dragged for long distances and painstakingly lifted in order to complete their shape is truly something out of this world.
